Members responded to a question about losing balance when leaning forward, with many sharing that this is a very common Parkinson's symptom that also includes falling backward, turning too quickly, and losing balance in the dark or with eyes closed. Several members shared helpful strategies like slowing down their walk, using a cane or walker, leaning on counters with feet hip-width apart, and attending specialized Parkinson's physical therapy programs focused on balance and inner ear exercises. A recurring theme was the importance of working with a movement disorder neurologist, staying aware of your surroundings, and supporting each other with humor and compassion while navigating daily balance challenges.

I think it just goes with the condition. I'm a little more dizzy than I was a year ago and balance has become more of a problem. My only suggestion is to be careful and think about where you are and what your next step is going to be. You just have to be a little more cautious about yourself. Outside of that I'm not having too much trouble with the Parkinson's. It did take a while to get used to the idea of Parkinson's though. I don't know if I have just been one of these unusual people but I am not depressed, I am accepting it pretty well. It might just be that I've been through a lot of things over my life and this is just one more.

Yes I have that problem alot! Actually I have a problem with leaning to the side also. I have pretty bad balance issues enough that I’d put it in the top five list of my worst symptoms.

I can lose balance easily. I have to stay aware of where my feet are.

CathleenHoward,
Phil is actually very nice AND very funny. As they say around here, he's an acquired taste.

I went to my movement doctor with this problem and she had me walk back and forth down the hall. She noticed I was leaning forward with my first step and increased as I walked. There is no race and the top part of my body was in a rush. I slowed down my walk added a cane and no problems since.
It worked for me I hope it can help someone else.
