The terms illness and disease are often used interchangeably, but they have distinct meanings in medical and social contexts.
1. Disease refers to a specific medical condition with identifiable signs and symptoms, which may result from infection, genetic factors, or environmental influences. It typically involves measurable or observable physiological changes, such as infections, cancers, or metabolic conditions like diabetes. Diseases are usually diagnosed by a healthcare professional and can often be classified and treated medically.
2. Illness, on the other hand, is more subjective and describes a person’s experience of feeling unwell. It encompasses the physical, emotional, and psychological aspects of feeling “ill” or “not well” and may or may not be tied to a diagnosable disease. For example, one may feel ill due to fatigue, stress, or emotional factors, without having a specific disease.

In summary, disease is more clinical and measurable, while illness reflects personal experience and perception of health.

A DESEASE is a clear recognized medical condition. Accompanied with certain symptoms and a defined treatment of such. An ILLNESS is a persons experience or feeling of being unwell. May not be due to a desease state
