Beets, artichoke hearts, nuts, hearts of palm, figs, water -- not all at once! If it is really bad, my husband takes one cup of SMOOTH MOVE herbal tea at bedtime and it does the trick. We save that for emergencies. During his DBS surgery we were given conventional stool softeners and they all worked after 3 days.
I eat mainly foods with a high fiber content and as many fresh foods and fruits as possible.
I eat a high fiber diet with lots of fruit and veggies, eat 4 prunes every morning, drink lots of water, get a lot of exercise, take one tablet of stool softener every night, take magnesium every night, and about twice a week I drink a fiber drink. It does the trick.
I was reading and thinking about us with constipation issues .... and found out that using fiber based supplements can do more damage for some of us, reason being almost all our meds are very dehydrating .... this dehydrated bowel only sticks more with the fiber, most advice I've come across says hydration and softners are more beneficial ... of course not to say if anything works, I'm not debating that, I'm simply contemplating all advice and find any natural remedies interesting and preferred myself ... so there's that, stay blessed ya'll ๐
I use miralax works pretty good
