One key difference is that people experiencing hallucinations often recognize that what they're experiencing isn't real, while delusions tend to be harder to distinguish from reality. Several MyParkinsonsTeam members have shared similar experiences. One member described seeing cats around their house in their peripheral vision while being aware they weren't actually there. Another member shared experiencing smoke smells without fire, knowing it wasn't real. Some people even experience a sense of presence - feeling someone is in the room without seeing them.
If you're experiencing hallucinations or delusions, it's important to discuss these symptoms with your healthcare team, as they may be related to medication side effects or disease progression and can be managed with proper treatment.
