Abrthritis per xray. I didn't need an xray to tell me it was arthritis. Cortisone shots did not help. Going to try a gel injection; was called Synvisc. I do not want knee replacement surgery. The other knee is fine. Severe scoliosis also limiting.mobility. Getting worse.
My knees don’t bother me now as much as they did in my teens and 20’s ! I had three knee surgeries during that time frame ! But my hips and everything else is a different story both hips replaced !
If you can see a physiotherapist first about how the scoliosis relates to knee replacement, I think that would be wise -- I have a mild scoliosis and I've had bad knees all my life in the first place. I've had some weird falls and weird aches and pains and I think the scoliosis is much more of a factor that I realized....I don't even have PD (I'm a caregiver) - my heart goes out to you. It is so hard to know what to do. In my friends' experience, half had 100% successful knee replacements and the other half had trouble, but this was 10-15 years ago, so I think that the knee replacement technology has improved a lot. In terms of arthritic pain, does arnica or volteran cream help?
I've had both of my knees replaced, 6 years apart. I really rely on exercise for my well being and to slow down the Parkinson's progression. My knees were severely limiting me and walking up and down stairs was a bear. I'm glad I got it done but it was not an easy surgery or recovery. I thought I had a good pain tolerance having three babies natural childbirth, but then I had a knee replacement, 😂. The fact that I couldn't take pain meds with out nausea and vomiting probably didn't help things. The ice packs were my best friend. I'm still happy I did it and I am able to do about anything I want as far as exercise.
The replacement is probably the only answer
My husband had the Synvisc shots and they helped him a lot. The effects lasted about a year. He had it done again later and it worked for about 6 months. Then he had his knee replaced. A running friend of mine did the shots for several years before having her knee replacement. It doesn't cure the problem, but it can help postpone the time you have to get the TKR.
