Now bear with me here - the piece is too big, right? Go to your Turkish Barbers and tell them to wax your ears. They'll stick a cotton bud of wax in your ear, let it cool and set, and then yank it out, taking all your ear hair with it.

Then tell them to do it again,. using as much wax as they can stuff in your lughole - and leave it twice as long to set - at least 20 minutes, maybe more. When they yank it out this time, their should be no gross hairs on it - plus you have the actual shape of your ear - on a stick, for your convenience. Compare that to the mould that's giving you trouble and carve accordingly!

If you're lucky, you may find a travelling waxer, who tend to be usually female, about 25 and blonde. It beats staring at a dark swarthy guy called Imran all day, and you might be able to get her to understand WHY you are doing what you are doing a little easier.

Though whether explaining something to a Turk who doesn't speak much English beyond "Chair is ready" and "Twenty quid mate" is any easier than explaining it to a blonde is anyone's guess!

Silly putty would only show you what it should look like, not necessarily where you should do the alterations.
What about some sort of temprary colouring that you could apply to the mould. It would then rub off in the areas where it is tight.
