Dbs is supposed to help with dyskensia not make it worse. It is supposed help with dystonia, tremor and off time. I had mine turned on Tuesday the 11th. I walked out of the doctor's office with my rollator and my cane. If someone is having dyskensia, you need to adjust your generator or program or cut back on your medication. See you movement disorder specialist. Something isn't right. I am completely overwhelmed by the results I have gotten. I'm already taking less medicine. No off time and no dyskensia. I am totally overwhelmed.
@A MyParkinsonsTeam Member - I think bilateral means what it says, both sides. Some people only have the implants on one side rather than on both. GPI is the region of the brain where the implants are placed, the Globus Pallidus Internus.
DBS can also help rigidity, which can make a difference for balance and pain. I spoke with someone who had the surgery many years ago who never had external tremors, just internal and problems with extreme rigidity. DBS helped both.
I have much worse dyskinesia since getting DBS. When I start getting off balance I know it's time to charge my device.
My balance is worse since my dbs just over a year ago I had bilateral gpi
