Is this level of nighttime urination normal with Parkinson's?
What you're experiencing sounds extremely disruptive, and the volume you're describing is quite significant. Nocturia (frequent nighttime urination) is indeed common with Parkinson's, affecting between 60 to 80 percent of people with the condition. However, waking every hour to an hour and a half and producing that much urine volume warrants medical attention.
While nocturia is a recognized symptom that disrupts sleep in Parkinson's, producing a half gallon or more of urine at night is unusual and could indicate other issues beyond typical PD-related nocturia. This level of urinary output needs to be evaluated by your doctor.
What you should do:
Contact your doctor soon to discuss:
- The frequency of your nighttime urination
- The volume of urine you're producing
- How long this has been happening
- Any other symptoms you've noticed
Your doctor may want to rule out other conditions or medication side effects that could be contributing to this excessive urine production. They might also adjust your fluid intake timing or review your medications.
In the meantime, your milk jug solution is practical for reducing trips, but addressing the underlying cause is important for improving your sleep quality and overall health.

There are medications that can help. My husband is on two and he only gets up once or twice a night. Managing your drinking is also important. limiting drinks after 7 or 8:00. Avoiding known diuretics later in the day (soda, tea, coffee).
