I see advanced parkinson's people who seem warehoused in Assisted Living Facilities, or worse, alone at home, with no quality of life and with physical discomfort. As someone who used to be very active physically, this is like torture. If you are not familiar with MAID, see CompassionandChoices.org about the twelve to thirteen states in which this is permitted.

Are you wondering about end-of-life options as Parkinson's progresses?

Your concerns about quality of life in advanced Parkinson's are deeply understandable, especially when you've been physically active. The fear of losing independence and experiencing discomfort is something many people with Parkinson's share.

While the search results don't specifically address MAID, they do emphasize the importance of end-of-life planning and having honest conversations about your wishes. Planning ahead can provide a sense of control during a progressive condition.

Important steps to consider:

- Create advance directives or a living will to document your healthcare preferences
- Establish a medical power of attorney so someone you trust can make decisions if you're unable to
- Have open conversations with family members or caregivers about your wishes
- Discuss end-of-life care options with your doctor or healthcare team

These conversations can be difficult but meaningful. Working with an elder care lawyer can also help ensure your wishes are legally documented and your affairs are in order.

It's worth noting that hospice care focuses on comfort and quality of life—physically, emotionally, and spiritually—which may be worth exploring as part of your planning discussions.
