Members resonated with the question about feeling exhausted after medical appointments, sharing that this is a very common experience for those living with Parkinson's disease and even for those without it. Several members described needing to sleep for hours or even a full day to recover after short outings, and a caregiver shared that her husband with PD often cancels plans the next day due to fatigue. A recurring theme was that planning ahead for rest, letting go of guilt, and knowing this exhaustion is normal can make a real difference.

My wife which is my caretaker fell and broke her left femur and I'm having to take care of her and myself and I now realize what she was going through but I'm handling it well except I can't cook

Hi Kathleen,
My husband and I went for a tour of a senior living community yesterday. In
all, we were back home in 2 hours. He is the one with PD. When we got home
he went to sleep and only got up to eat dinner and went back to sleep.

Today we were going out to pick up a few groceries, but he was too tired to
go. He went back to bed after breakfast.

This doesn't happen to him all the time, but it is not uncommon for him to
need a day to recover from going out. Now that I have learned about the
extreme fatigue that is associated with PD,
I just let him sleep if he needs to, and am not disappointed or upset if we
have to cancel an activity later in the day or the next day.

So Kathleen, this is not unusual, and happens to some people with PD. Just
expect the you may feel exhausted after an activity, even a small one. Plan
to rest the next day if you need to do so.

I hope this helps. God Bless you.
