Hospice care is generally considered when someone is expected to live six months or less. For people with Parkinson's, this often comes into the picture during the advanced stages of the condition.

Some common signs that it may be time to explore hospice care include:

- Difficulty performing daily activities like feeding, dressing, or grooming without help
- Pain or discomfort that is becoming harder to manage
- A desire to focus on comfort and quality of life rather than aggressive treatment Hospice care can be provided at home with nursing support or at a dedicated hospice facility. The focus is on dignity, comfort, and emotional and spiritual well-being — for both the person with Parkinson's and their loved ones.

It's a good idea to look into options early, before they're urgently needed, and have an open conversation with a healthcare provider. Costs may be covered by Medicare, Medicaid, or private insurance, so it's worth checking what your plan includes.

Thank you! We interviewed for hospice care and found we didn't meet criteria. Palliative care was recommended and we're so happy with this added level of support.
