I've been reading about symptoms and now I know I have been having symptoms for several years. I'm already in stage 3. Thanks for any info you could share.
Nobody can say for sure what is ahead of you. Everyone with Parkinson's has somewhat different symptoms, different responses to medication and exercise, and different other illnesses that affect them. You can prepare for a future in which you need significant care, but mostly you need to focus on making your life right now the best it can be. Exercise, socialize, eat well, live as fully as possible.
Hi, First I would like to give you a toolbox for helping you stay in the fight.
1. Take your medicine every day. On time.
2. Make sure all your doctors get a list of medications. When there are changes. Let other dr. Know
3. Use your voice often and loud. Also look into speech therapy.
4. Stretch and movement. There are classes that are Parkinson’s related. I go to Rock Steady Boxing . They have special classes for Parkinson’s.
I have not asked for the next phase. I have today to enjoy. Everyone is different. However. Meds, movements. Voice And sleep. This is my toolbox.
Thanks Cheryl. My wife is by my side all the time. She gets mad every time I what to go out to fix something. Just the other day I went out to get something out of my car and did not tell my wife I was going out and she took a nap. When I headed back I was about 10 feet from my ramp. All of a sudden I would take one step an 2 steps back. I did that 6 or 8 times. The my body started to go back and my legs couldn't keep up. I fell back and hit the ground hard. Knocked my hearing aid out of my ears and my glasses went flying. When I got oriented, luckily I had my phone so I was able to call her. After 4 or 5 tries she woke up and came to my rescue. Brought a walker but my legs would not work. Had to get a heavier walker with the wheels and brakes with the seat. Finally my legs started working and I was able to get in the house. Then I got chewed out. Yesterday I told her I was going out and changed a pulley on my lawnmower deck, already had the deck pulled out. Only one bolt. It took me longer to get a wrench. I grew up on a farm so I know how to fix stuff. I still had to sit with a fan on me before I could go in I was give out. Had to lay down.
Agree Ginny, no one is the samewhen it comes to Parkinson Disease. Medication affects each person differently and response is different. I was luck and responded to the medicine in a couple of months. I am dealing with fatigue constantly and figuring out how to get things done such as housecleaning. Family and friends are a big comfort. Husband still doesn't understand that I am tired most everyday. Started taking PT and speech therapy classes right away which helped so much. Take one day at a time -some days will be worse or better than others. Hoping you have a suppport person/group which is the best you can do for yourself. Good Luck!
Hi Alan I don't think the Neurological can tell you what stage you are I know they say 5 Stages in Parkinson's But when you go to him you could have different symptoms and he gives you a stage but you know yourself you know your own body that's what I think others will differ all the best
