Requip (ropinirole) is a dopamine agonist, and there is some research suggesting that dopamine agonists may help reduce apathy in Parkinson's. Since apathy is thought to be linked to changes in the brain's reward centers, boosting dopamine activity could potentially help with motivation. However, dopamine agonists like Requip do come with some important things to be aware of:

- They can increase impulsive or obsessive behaviors
- They have been linked to increased risk-taking and gambling
- Any new or concerning behaviors should be reported to your doctor right away

It's also worth knowing that about 40% of people living with Parkinson's experience apathy, so it's a very common challenge — you're definitely not alone in this.

Beyond medication, some studies have found that exercise and mindfulness meditation can also help reduce feelings of apathy. A MyParkinsonsTeam member shared that even on tough days, pushing through exercise left them feeling much better afterward.

The best step is to talk with your neurologist or movement disorder specialist about whether Requip could be a good fit for managing apathy alongside your other symptoms.
