Susan, when I read about your sleep problems I thought I could have written it. I live alone & my friends know I don't do mornings. I use a herbal called Midnight . It helps most of the time to get back to sleep for a while.
My MD (neuro) told me that small dose of melatonin works for 4hrs. True. He said to try time-release, available@ Sams & Wallmart, to last all night. Haven't tried it yet.
I take Melatonin and Valerian. They help a little. I am retired so I can nap in the daytime if I cannot sleep at night. I believe I read that PD causes us to lose our internal clock, our circadian rhythm. I think that's true for me. I am exhausted all the time, sleepy all day, and wide awake at bedtime. I have tried so many ways to fix this problem, but nothing really works for me. I have just stopped stressing about it and accepted the fact that I can't fix it.
I get about 3-4 hours a night on a good night. Getting to sleep isn't a problem, I wake up around 3:00, and then I'm done. I can't take Melatonin since I have a blood clotting disorder :( Any other suggestions out there?
Yes, Elizabeth, I agree with you--I don't do mornings either! I am a widow, and living alone does make it easier to sleep whenever I need to. I believe that stressing about my insomnia actually just made it worse.
