To AJMac: Re the swallowing: Have you considered a speech therapist? They provide therapy for swallowing problems. My sister's therapist has worked with her in this area.
To AJ Mac
Small bites of food with plenty of sips of water seem to work ok. Mix pills with apple sauce and don’t eat so fast. Savor the texture of food.
People who don’t have PD don’t know what the symptoms are. Would be good to inform them so they wouldn’t make fun!!
I'm sure he's probably embarrassed by his actions too people can just stick it if they want to make comments about people with Parkinson's.
hey, AJ. haven't talked in a while. I have to put thickener in my drinks or I cough up a lung! Same thing with eating. If I take too large bites, it makes me cough. I take a bunch of pills, but I can usually take only 2 at a time with plenty of water. I went to speech therapy for a while, & she gave me exercises to help swallow better. That seems to be doing better. Plus it cost $40 bucks a pop, so I stopped. Amazon sells thickened liquids, which are flavored & taste good. Plus my wife/caregiver ordered thickener, which helps a lot. She also makes sure I take my pills on time. I take them 3x a day. One time I took 2 doses too close together, & I had Wicked tremors for 30-45 min. Never again. I have good & bad days like anyone else. I've had other issues, but I think this book is long enough. I can give you my phone # & e-mail addy if that helps any. Well, enough 1 finger typing. Keep in touch, willya? Take care, buddy. Dave
