Members responded with care and personal experience to a question about swallowing problems caused by Parkinson's disease, with many sharing that this is a recognized symptom they have also faced. Several members recommended working with a speech therapist, getting a barium swallow test, and exploring resources like the Parkinson Voice Project website, which focuses on vocal and swallowing issues specific to Parkinson's. A recurring theme was the importance of trusting your medical team, staying proactive with testing, and leaning on community support to navigate this challenging symptom.

Yes! Dysphasia is a symptom. The Cleveland Clinic has tested the muscles in my throat and they are weakening. They gave me Buspirone and therapy and both have helped.

Good morning - If you are having swallowing issues or vocal issues I would recommend going to "Parkinson Voice Project" website. Great place to learn to regain and retain your voice, Swallowing and talking use many of the same muscles.
I believe this organization is the only one that its dedicated to vocal issues specifically associated with Parkinson's Disease.
You should always talk to your PD dr.
I have no medical training but I have used this organization for over 10 years with great results

Larry ,
I hear you , it's one but not the only side effects of having Parkinson disease . I used to have that problem and problems swallowing pills during the day . Well I still have problems with swallowing my pills , but to get the rest we all need , for even if you have had a good day , at the end of the day we all are sore and completely fatigued out . So and I am sorry if you or others don't agree with me , but medical marijuana has been the answer to my sleep problems 😓 . I vape it and I can tell you it works for me . Now that's been said , I just don't or want to take anymore pills then I have to . I used to be a runner for just about my whole life , and by the end of the day I feel like I have ran a 5K , everything hurts so much that many times I would go to sleep crying . I'm not sure if this is in anyway a help for you . Remember cannabis is a natural Solution that I believe GOD put on this earth to help us to deal with day to day problems with having Parkinson disease , so let us keep faith in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and keep praying šŸ™ for one another , and fight this disease one day at a time ....šŸ¤
