Some people find their family doesn't want to know. Perhaps they are afraid of a future in which they would have to take care of their family member when things get bad, maybe they just don't want to think about that person suffering. Because the symptoms aren't always obvious, especially at first, some people just don't understand how much their family member is being affected by the disease.

My husband's kids were great. As soon as they heard about his diagnosis, Jim's sons drove 2 hours to our home to ask what it meant and what they could do to help. As it turns out, not much, but it also isn't necessary at this point. I know that they would be willing to help if asked.

I'm not sure if anyone in my family even believes I have Parkinson's. No one acts as if they even care. Sad... My wife Christine is fantastic. She puts up with my mood swings, night dreams/fights with whom ever it is, my twitching, mumbling, stumbling and more.

In my case that’s a no. We had some issues around understanding of the disease, but that’s been resolved.
