My brother lives abroad, and has been unable to travel since 2019 because of travel restrictions. This was stressful and claustrophobic, inducing a measure of stress

This was followed a few months later by a fast pulse rate, anxiety and significantly, a rapid weight loss of 4kg in two weeks followed by a further similar weight loss. At 6’, he now weighs approximately 58kg.

I lost 27 pounds in 6 weeks which left me frail and weak. Now trying to regain appetite and some weight. Prednisone, ensure and anything I can force myself to eat.🤩☺️

Losing weight is a very common issue in Parkinson’s.

Before being diagnosed with PD I went from 172 lbs to 147 in about 5 weeks. This was one of my early symptoms. Lost almost all my muscle and leg strength. Bumping off walls, falling down, all the fun stuff. Went from boxing and weights 4-5 days a week to not being able to raise off my bed with my arms. After starting cl my weight stabilized at about 150. I tried ensure but I'm one of the lucky ones with stomach issues as well so that didn't work. As long as I eat 3 meals a day, even light ones, and a snack in the evening my weight stays stable. Trying to work on building strength back but it's a slow process. A recumbent bike has helped my balance, appetite, and leg strength.

Weight loss is very common in PD, so is stress. Stress causes Parkinson’s to advance rapidly. He needs to calm down. Meditation, yoga, and breathing exercises are usually quite helpful.

He needs to get as much exercise as possible, and he should get home ASAP.
