If I stay in a store too long my legs feel weak and I walk like I am drunk and feel like they are going to give out. It will be difficult to get back to our car. My Neurologist told me that was not caused by Parkinsons and says it sounds like spinal stenosis and ordered a MRI. This has happened from the beginning of my diagnosis in 2018. I think itโ€™s the Parkinsons. Does anyone else have the same difficulty with your legs? Anyone have these same issues or not. I appreciate your feedback. Anyโ€ฆ read more

Members overwhelmingly confirmed that leg weakness and difficulty walking after standing too long are common Parkinson's symptoms, with many describing the same drunk-like gait and fear of falling, though some also deal with overlapping spinal stenosis or other back issues. Several members shared practical strategies that have helped them manage these challenges, including using rollators or shopping carts for stability, requesting wheelchair assistance, sitting down immediately when weakness strikes (even on the floor if necessary), doing regular physical therapy to maintain leg strength, and planning rest breaks into outings. A recurring theme was the importance of self-advocacy, listening to your body without guilt, and taking proactive steps to prevent falls, as many members emphasized that protecting yourself from injury is far more important than pushing through weakness or worrying about what others might think.

I have definitely had this problem since even BEFORE being diagnosed with PD. Since xrays and MRI'S have never revealed a reason for leg/hip pain (until just very recently when osteoarthritis has been seen in hip)--- because of that, I've always assumed leg weakness and/or pain was my PD.

You always manage to make me laugh; you get that right! Even today when I feel like Iโ€™ve been dragged down the road by a Peter Built youโ€™ve made me laugh.

Hi Carol, I just saw your question about leg weakness while in the grocery store. I surely do experience the same thing...whether it's in the store, at my grandkids' ball games, working in or out of the house. My muscles just stiffen and become weak enough that it's hard to walk. I've begun to take my walker to the games so that I can use it to get back to the car. I'm planning to get a cane and hope it will be a big help. I was looking back at posts from May and there you were! I've gotten away from posting for the past couple of months and it was wonderful to see your encouraging words on here again. Have been going thru a rough patch right now and getting back here is a very good thing. I've been getting to the physical therapy gym just about every day, but also have bi-polar disorder and right now it's causing some challenges along with the parkinson's. Seeing your posts again was really encouraging and I thank God for you. I hope your neurologist reaches a conclusion and solution for you. Will keep you in my prayers. Arlene
