My husband has had PD for 12 years. He takes carbadopa-levodopa every 3 hours around the clock at the maximum dosage. He is usually exhausted, has difficulty walking, no tremors. Is there any treatment that would help his quality of life and be affordable?

My husband has had the duopa pump almost 3 years. It is helpful but not a cure nor does it stop the progression on this disease. The duopa pump provides the med (levodopa/carbidopa) as the basic pills. We find it helps level out the ups and downs of the pills. Instead of mountains and valleys it is rolling hills. The current duopa pump weighs over 1 pound so it can be burdensome to carry around. Although one disconnects the pump to sleep or shower, you still have the tube sticking out of your abdomen. The duopa website has helpful information. Plus, duopa has a peer mentor program so you can actually talk to a person that uses the pump.
