I trust my sister-in-law since she is a nurse and can help my husband make the right decisions about medical care. Your entire post is very informative. Thanks, I do trust the two to make the right decisions. It's a matter of me accepting that this needs to be done now so I can make informed decisions. I have peace of mind about this decision.

We have medical POAs naming Jim's kids. Mostly that is so they can be kept informed if we are hospitalized (since HIPAA makes it hard to get info), but also in case we are unable to make our own decisions. Our attorney basically said, if you don't trust them to make the right decision, or to wait until you are incapable, don't give them POA. If you do trust them, then stop worrying. That was also the case for the financial POA. Do you trust them or not? Talk to an Eldercare attorney if you want to add restrictions to a medical POA.
