I have read about boxing but my reflexes are SO slow, I'm afraid it will kick back and hit me... I was diagnosed this past April. I suffer from poor balance (falls), slow jerky walking (using a cane already), freezing-getting stuck with movements. My left arm/hand is extremely slow. VERY Slow, soft speech, drooling, inconvenience and memory problems. About two months ago I started having severe burning back pain. VERY frustrating. My husband tries but he is overwhelmed. It has been very hard for… read more

Hi LindaBoss! I have burning pain down the back of my legs sometimes in my back. I use ice on the burning pain. I have found it really helpful. I hope you find relief!

My wife just started Rock Steady Boxing. They work with everybody, at your pace. It is not just boxing, they set up around 10 stations. They have a section that works on dexterity , they have stationary bikes and some other equipment. You rotate from station to station, with lots of volunteers at each station. Most places are probably similar, but this place is new and build just for this. Good luck to you.

Hi Linda, four wheel walker with seat is great. Try Amazon. Heating pads also Amazon. Two minutes in microwave. When my legs start to hurt and stiffen up I walk with walker. Really helps. Great in bed! Puts me right to sleep!

Hi Linda, I don’t do any specific exercises as I get plenty caring for my handicapped husband. I was diagnosed July 2023. I do use my four wheel walker several times aday. I race thru the house and sing, loudly! Not pretty, but makes me feel better. Can’t carry a tune! Dogs not happy! My legs and lower back only hurt on left side. I use two microwave pads and the heat really helps. One on my icy feet and one on my back. Maybe you should get a second opinion. My neurologist diagnosed my PD on my first visit. No tests other than his exam. I try to time my meds before going in an OFF time. I’m trying hard to live with this. My husband needs me!

Rock Steady Boxing is done at a gym. You could do yoga at home or seated chair exercises. A stationary recumbent bike would help strengthen your legs without having balance issues. The LSVT-Big program has online videos, but ideally you do it at a physical therapist's office so you get the benefits of the intense program. (They do it 4 days a week for 4 weeks while you do it on your own the other days.) A good LSVT therapist adds in exercises to focus on the issues you have, like freezing.
