I have both diabetes and PD. The lions share of the Neuropathy is caused by Diabetes. However, PD does chip in.

It’s discouraging how little, Doctors in general, and Neurologists in particular, know about PD.

I have had Parkinson’s for 10 years and have neuropathy from the middle of my shins to the tips of my toes. I had a neuroscientist tell me it is central neuropathy not peripheral neuropathy. Peripheral neuropathy is damage to the nerves outside of the brain vs central neuropathy occurs when damage occurs to the nerves inside the brain. I asked my neurologist about it and she said the neuropathy had nothing to due with Parkinson’s but when I looked into it I found that many people with Parkinson’s have neuropathy. I don’t do anything to treat it currently. It does cause my feet to be cold all of the time and the numbness does have an effect on my balance.

Neurologists are generally very adept at dealing with disorders. IE: ruptured discs, brain tumors, etc. diseases that affect the brain, not so much. It falls under their umbrella, but they already had a full plate.

Dale are you saying they know so little in comparison with other ailments ?

My husband takes gabapentin for neuropathic foot pain. In his case, he is diabetic so it was assumed to relate to that.
