I would like to hear about your experiences and what you use to help. I find neuropathy to be a real burden because of the pain and the lack of remedies. I need to find out more about it so that I can learn how to live with it. Thanks for sharing!

Hi Susan,
I was given Gabapentin for severe foot pain and it didn’t work at all for me, just made me loopy, but have been taking Duloxetine (two 20mg capsules once daily) for a number of years and it has reduced my foot pain substantially without any bothersome side effects.

I take that medicine too along with Gabapentin. I just discovered something called Nervive; it was advertised on TV. I bought the cream and what makes it different from lidocaine is that it has other elements in it besides lidocaine including ALA and vitamins B12 and B complex. I had just started taking supplements with these ingredients when I saw the ad. I figured it couldn't hurt to use it since I use lidocaine anyway. All of these various things will take a few weeks to make a difference but I'm hoping to at least take the edge off.

I believe my neuropathy was caused by my total knee replacement in my left knee 2 years ago.

Thank you Dr Miller. Indeed it already has been a long drawn-out process. This has been going on since I had my knee replacement surgery 2 years ago. I did have cervical stenosis which was taken care of with surgery and I do have a very mild form in my lower back. I am not a diabetic and I don't drink, and so far my blood work has not shown a deficiency in B12 but I will ask for it to be looked at at my next physical. My knee surgery on my left knee, although successful, did not relieve the pain. In fact now I have had chronic nerve pain ever since, and the pain is affecting other areas of my leg as well. I am seeing the NP for my neurologist tomorrow to talk further about this. I had an EMG test a year ago, which shows that I am prone to neuropathy. I just started 2 supplements recommended by my pain management doctor. I have been taking Gabapentin for over a year. Not sure where to go to from here.

I do appreciate your concern and will keep trying.
