Yes, other people may experience some of these symptoms, but I would not automatically assume they are all coming from Parkinson’s.

The drainage may be caused by allergies or sinus problems. That can make you breathe through your mouth and leave your mouth very dry. Hyperventilating can then cause chest tightness, dizziness, tingling, and even more dryness. Reflux, anxiety, asthma, an infection, medication side effects, or swallowing problems could also be involved. With Parkinson’s, breathing problems may sometimes happen when medication is wearing off or when it is at its strongest.

The part I would not ignore is the chest pressure. If it is happening now, is new or severe, lasts more than a few minutes, or comes with trouble breathing, sweating, nausea, faintness, or pain spreading into your arm, back, neck, or jaw, please call 911.

If it is not an emergency, keep a little record of when it happens—around meals, medication times, activity, or nasal drainage—and talk with your doctor or neurologist soon. There are several possible causes, and your doctor is the best person to help sort out what is actually happening.

Yes, others with Parkinson's do report experiencing combinations of these symptoms, and they can be connected in a few ways. Breathing difficulties, dry mouth, and post-nasal drip can all be linked to Parkinson's itself or to Parkinson's medications.

Here are some possible contributing factors:

- Anxiety — A very common Parkinson's symptom that can trigger hyperventilating and chest pressure. Shallow or rapid breathing can then create a scary cycle that worsens anxiety further
- Medication wearing off — Shortness of breath and related symptoms can flare when Parkinson's medication starts losing effectiveness between doses
- Dry mouth — Often a side effect of Parkinson's medications Some things that may help relieve these symptoms include:

- Talking to your neurologist about adjusting medication timing or dosage if symptoms worsen at certain times of day
- Anxiety management through therapy, behavioral strategies, or medication if anxiety is a trigger
- Staying hydrated to help with dry mouth and throat irritation
- Sitting more upright — some MyParkinsonsTeam members find this helps with breathing comfort

It's really worth bringing all of these symptoms up together with your doctor, since they may share a common cause that can be addressed with one solution. You deserve to feel heard on this! 💙
