I took my annual flu shot a few days ago. Two days later I couldn’t get out of bed. I felt like I had the flu. The next one will be Covid and then the pneumococcal immunization. I take one of them every two weeks. I would not dare take two of them at a time. The pharmacist tried two at a time last year. Last year it worked out fine. However, I am much weaker this year. How do you take your annual immunizations?

Members shared a wide range of approaches to annual immunizations, from taking all recommended vaccines to avoiding them entirely, with most agreeing that personal health history plays a big role in the decision. Several members described side effects like fatigue, aches, and in rare cases more serious reactions, while others reported no issues at all after years of getting flu, COVID, pneumonia, and RSV shots. A recurring theme was that each person should consult their doctor or pharmacist to weigh the risks and benefits based on their own health conditions, medications, and history.

Gordon, Bob believes immunizations are a personal decision, but one best made with your doctor or pharmacist. Each of us has different health conditions, medications, ages, past reactions, and risks from the diseases themselves.

The flu vaccine is generally offered every year, while COVID recommendations may change as updated vaccines become available. Other vaccines—such as RSV, pneumonia, shingles, and tetanus—are not necessarily taken annually and depend on your age, medical history, and previous vaccinations.

Bob would never tell someone else which ones they must take. He looks at the possible risks and benefits, talks with his medical team, and then makes the decision that feels right for him.

Some take one, some take two,
and some aren’t certain what to do.
Learn the facts and talk them through—
then make the choice that’s right for you.

The decision belongs to each of us, but we should make it with good information—not pressure, fear, or whatever Bob overheard while standing in the pharmacy line!

I took pneumonia shot. Take no other vaccines, especially covid. Took flu shot 10 years ago ,and became deathly ill. No more vaccines for me.

My husband will get a flu shot, but probably nothing else. He had the pneumonia shot a few years ago and I think it is supposed to last, not need to be renewed every year. He had the original Covid shots and one booster, but hasn't had one since. We both got Covid after being vaccinated, but very mild cases. We aren't around people much, so don't get a lot of exposure.

Thankyou, Gordon, I have never been sick from any of my vaccinations either except for a couple of days of aches and pains and I have not had a cold or flu for about 10 years.😘
