I don't think the patches are helping me much either. I'm on my second month and don't see much of a difference. I could probably accept the cost if it replaced the Rytary and/or I could see a big improvement in symptoms.

@A MyParkinsonsTeam Member - Rytary is an extended release version of carbidopa-levodopa.

@A MyParkinsonsTeam Member - My husband tried the patch. Our trial was free for 3 weeks but when that ended we learned how much the patches cost and he decided to stop using them. They didn't make much difference for him.

The Neupro patch is a dopamine agonist that mimics dopamine in the brain to help manage Parkinson's motor symptoms. Many MyParkinsonsTeam members have tried it, and experiences vary. Whether you still need Rytary depends on your individual treatment plan — your neurologist may use them together or adjust accordingly.

Here's a quick breakdown of pros and cons:

Pros:
- Easy once-daily application
- Steady, continuous drug delivery through the skin
- No pills to swallow

Cons:
- Skin irritation at the patch site is common
- Must be applied to clean, healthy skin only
- Heat sources (heating pads, saunas, hot baths, direct sunlight) can affect how the patch works
- Contains aluminum, so it must be removed before MRIs or cardioversion procedures
- Cannot drink alcohol while using it Common side effects to watch for include nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, swelling, and abnormal movements. More serious symptoms like hallucinations, rigid muscles, chest pain, or seizures should be reported to your doctor immediately.

As always, never stop using the Neupro patch suddenly — work with your doctor to taper off gradually if needed.
