My husband takes Sinemet and Azilect. He was diagnosed a year ago and is finding that he already has to take more pills to relieve pain and stiffness. Are there any pain relievers or herbal remedies that can help with these symptoms? His main complaint is back pain and leg stiffness.

Hi Sterling1, that's correct, its just Magnesium Chloride (flakes) and distilled water that makes up the spray. Applying it topically is one of the easiest ways our bodies can absorb magnesium. Taking magnesium orally can have a laxative effect on some people so using it this way can help people get their magnesium without the negative side effects.

I'm from Australia so I'm not sure what CVS is but I'm certain you can buy it online. I get mine from our local health food store. I think its called Ancient Minerals, but any brand would do the trick. I find I sleep deeper and better, have more stamina and am more relaxed. My mother in law swears by it for her aches and pains, if she stops using it her pain returns. Helps my mother too with her hip pain and her quality of sleep improved as well. Its such an amazing mineral! :)

Wow! Thanks for all these ideas. These are definitely things that I will look into. He does exercise every day, but he says the positive effects only last for an hour or two and then he starts feeling stiff. He is in the beginning stages of PD and he's trying to take the least amount of meds possible.

My father was diagnosed 2 years ago and used to get pain in his feet. Since changing his diet and taking Magnesium he no longer suffers with this. He is currently following the Leaky Gut Syndrome diet. He's not long been on this diet (and has a way to go) but we're already seeing positive improvements with his condition by healing the gut which in turn reduces inflammation in the body.

Taking magnesium topically is more beneficial than taking it orally. My father can't take baths because he wouldn't be able to get out of it, but soaking in a hot bath for a minimum of 20 minutes with Magnesium Chloride (flakes) is very beneficial. You can also make magnesium oil and spray that on the torso or wherever pain is felt. I make magnesium oil for a lot of my family/friends and the feedback i get (and have experienced firsthand) is not only does it help with joint and bodily pain but also helps with sleep and stamina. I've read Magnesium accounts for more that 800 biochemical processes in the body and is a vital mineral which most people are deficient in. Can give you the recipe if you're interested or you can google it, there are a heaps of recipes online.

Wishing your husband the best and hope he finds relief soon...

@A MyParkinsonsTeam Member. I always suggest pain management called a Rhizotomy and done by an orthopedist. The pain will be alleviated for up to a year after having this procedure. Is your husband able to have a MRI done? The MRI is the first thing the doctors will request. They can then look to see where the painful nerve endings are and can then cauterize them. It all grows back in about a year and the pain does comes back...but he can just keep on getting the pain management surgery (Rhizotomy) and save himself from having to take pain pills or endure the pain. Best wishes. Sterling.

It's not really an oil per se, I think they call it that because it has an oily consistency once made. This is the quantity I make because it fills my spray bottle perfectly. Just up or lower the quantity to fit your spray bottle. I use an amber glass spritzer bottle but plastic is fine to use too.

Recipe:
1/4 Cup Magnesium Chloride (Flakes) Apparently they absorb better than Magnesium Sulfate (Epsom Salts)
1/4 Distilled Water (Don't use tap water because chlorine reacts with Magnesium and distilled water extends the shelf life of the mixture).

Method:
Boil distilled water then add the flakes, stirring until dissolved (it will dissolve fairly quickly). Once cooled, pour the mixture into a spray bottle. 8 sprays are approximately 100mg. You can leave it on the skin all day (I do) or you can wash it off after 20 or 30 minutes. Stored at room temperature it will keep for six months.

If you feel any tingling or stinging, dilute the solution and slowly work up to the quantity used in this recipe (some people are more sensitive than others - it tingled for me at first but I can use it under my arms straight after shaving now, with no ill effect). With continued use you won't feel tingling/stinging at the ratio of this recipe.

Tip - If your spray bottle clogs up (which is common with magnesium oil) just soak in some warm soapy water and press the nozzle until it clears again.

Spirulina is another alternative to using magnesium oil because its high in chlorophyll and magnesium is in the center of the chlorophyll molecule. With any supplement I'd check with your doctor to see if you're able to take it, in case it reacts with any medication you're on.

Hope it helps! All the best <3
