As prescribed 30 min before and 2 hours after meals. Empty stomach never applies to me. Protein is the main thing to watch out for, as it competes with levodopa during digestion and can reduce how much reaches your brain. Here are some helpful tips around food and timing:
- Save high-protein foods (meat, fish, cheese, eggs, soy) for later in the day when "off" time is less of a concern
- If you take iron supplements, space them at least 2 hours apart from your levodopa dose
- In early stages, taking it with meals may not cause issues — but this can change over time
Everyone responds a little differently, so tracking your symptoms and checking in regularly with your doctor is really important to find what works best for you.
